An obvious question is why put out a paid product? I have personally benefited from open source efforts and substack as a venue tends towards radical or extreme position to drive up clocks so the question is natural. The real reason is that I want to give it a try. I think that writing content for pay is fine, especially when one does the research and devotes their free time to it (and really free in the economic sense where you are spending the opportunity cost of the next best thing). I always like the idea of guarding some content with a dollar value that doesn't fit into my normal blog content which is focused mostly on technology expositions. This newsletter will allow me to explore other topics that don't fit into pure examples of using programming and could instead allow comments on other areas related to my interests in data science, applied statistics, epidemiology, public health, and science more broadly.
So to the subscribers, thank you!
